About
Each year, the Kansas Music Educator's Association (KMEA) hosts an In-Service Workshop (ISW) in Wichita, KS. This year, the conference will be held February 26-28 at Century II. KMEA ISW activities include:
- Clinics addressing a plethora of topics (special needs in the music room, rehearsal techniques, clinics for beginning teachers, instrument-specific workshops, etc.) from educators in the state and top clinicians from across the nation
- Free concerts performed by the top Kansas school ensembles (can you say, "recital attendance!?!")
- Countless resources from music education vendors (including fundraising companies, instrument repair specialists, music publishers, marching band companies - and many more!)
- Invaluable networking opportunities with current music educators and future colleagues from across the state!
A full schedule of the 2015 ISW events will be made available at the KMEA ISW page. K-State NAfME members are highly encouraged to attend!!
Registration
Registration for K-State NAfME members is covered by chapter funds - so you don't pay anything! In order to register, simply fill out the KMEA Registration Form by December 12th, 2014, and the NAfME officers will do the rest!
Travel/Lodging
Members are expected to make their own transportation and lodging arrangements for the duration of the conference. Hotels close to the convention center tend to fill up quickly - so if you do not have anyone to stay with in Wichita, book your hotel sooner rather than later! Carpooling to the conference is common, but it is up to you to make these arrangements.
Classes/Excused Absences
Since many of K-State's music faculty and ensembles are invited to speak/perform at the conference, most music classes and rehearsals will be cancelled on the Thursday/Friday of the conference. For music courses that will still be held and any other courses outside of the music department, professors may require a letter and/or makeup assignments in order to consider the absence excused. If in doubt, ask your professor!
Reimbursement
K-State NAfME members may be reimbursed for gas as long as they are in good standing with the organization, attend the entire conference, and turn in original receipts of their gas purchases by March 6th, 2015. Late receipts will not be reimbursed. Reimbursement will not be issued for food or lodging expenses.
Attending the Conference
NAfME Collegiate members have their own registration table. Simply give the person running the table your name and show your National NAfME membership card and they will give you your badge and a schedule of events. Meals are not included in registration, so plan accordingly. It is expected that K-State NAfME members attend the entire conference (Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning) and act in a professional manner that positively represents our university and music department.
